Nostradamus, Rasputin, Wanga: how did they predict the future from the point of view of science?

Nostradamus, Rasputin and Wanga are perhaps the most famous and influential visionaries in world history. Their prophecies were reflected in the politics of the powers, attracted the attention of society and elites, and even today, centuries later, arouse wide interest among the modern public.

How does science explain their predictive power?

Michel de Notre Dame is a French physician, alchemist and astrologer of Jewish origin. Seer

Michel’s prophecies were published in annual almanacs and were based on the movement of the planets. The meaning was encrypted in short quatrains and never pointed to specific future events, describing them in a rather abstract and generalized way.

But in reality, Nostradamus was not a professional astrologer.

As a scientist, Nostradamus understood that the history of the world is inherently cyclical and, like the movement of planets, repeats itself. Thus, «predictions» described the events of the past in the hope that they would be fulfilled in the future.

As for specific prophecies, the quatrains themselves can be interpreted in different ways, depending on what exactly the reader expects to extract from the text.

Grigory Rasputin is a healer and seer, a friend of the Russian imperial family. He exerted a tremendous influence on the country’s politics through the wife of Emperor Nicholas II.

The seer was a religious person, traveled to the holy places of the planet, and later declared himself a spiritual mentor and a man of God, endowed with the power of healing.

After Rasputin’s sessions, people, most often women and children, felt better. The healer’s methods soothed the pain of the heir to the throne, Alexei, who was suffering from hemophilia. With this, Gregory won the gratitude of a deeply pious empress.

How did Rasputin gain such popularity?

In addition, many negative facts about the seer were formed thanks to the «black PR» of German and revolutionary propaganda. The image of a sorcerer who subjugated the imperial family and through it rules the country undermined the popularity of Nicholas II.

Probably the most popular healer and seer with the ability to look into the past and the future. She claimed that she owed her predictions to invisible otherworldly creatures, whose origin could not be explained.

At the same time, Vanga was listed as an employee of the civil service and received a monthly salary of 200 Bulgarian levs for the predictions. The cost of a psychic session for Soviet citizens cost 10 leva, for Westerners — 50 dollars. The proceeds went to the state treasury.

How did the seer know the future?

Intelligence gathered information about the visitors in advance and passed the information on to the woman. The fortune teller was a state brand on which the Bulgarian government made excellent money.

So far, not a single person has been found to have psychic abilities. Do you think people are able to see the future?
